Ajax Starlet ‘Out of Danger’ After Terrifying On-Pitch Collapse in Pre-Season Friendly

Ajax youngster Abdelhak Nouri has been described by his club as ‘out of danger’ after collapsing on the pitch with what is believed to have been a heart issue during a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen.

The 20-year-old was airlifted to hospital for treatment after the incident, with the match called off when the severity of Nouri’s condition became clear, with ambulances and – later – a helicopter ambulance arriving on the scene to treat the 20-year-old midfielder.

The Ajax man went down after about 70 minutes of the match, going to the ground in stages before his teammates noticed and appealed to the referee to stop the game as they crowded around their fallen teammate.

The club’s Twitter account confirmed shortly after the incident that Nouri suffered from cardiac arrhythmias in the incident, and is currently stable – although being kept asleep and in intensive care.
