Aston Villa’s Amavi fails Sevilla medical

Aston Villa full-back Jordan Amavi has failed his medical at Sevilla, leaving his summer move in jeopardy.

Amavi was set to sign for the La Liga side earlier today but after taking his medical at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, reports have now claimed that he failed the examination due to his knee.

The youngster suffered a bad knee injury whilst on international duty with France’s U21 side last season, leaving him out of Villa’s start to the season and Sevilla have indicated that there is a risk of the problem returning.

The defender wasn’t training with his new team-mates on Monday, and Estadio Deportivo has said that the move has now been canceled.

That is yet to be confirmed by Sevilla or Championship side Villa.

Amavi’s proposed arrival at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan will add options to their defense, with Brazilian Mariano and Argentine Sergio Escudero already occupying the flanks.

Amavi joined Villa two years ago from Nice for a fee around £9 million and made 36 appearances for the Midlands’ based side last season.

The French-born defender began his career with Nice with his form impressing the French national setup, seeing him gain caps at U18, U20, and U21 level.
