News breaking from Barcelona this afternoon where the club have announced on their official website that they are to sell Spanish International forward David Villa to Atletico Madrid.
The 32-year old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur vying for his signature.
Recent reports had suggested he would form part of the deal with Thiago Alcantara in an attempt to prize away Wayne Rooney from Manchester United.
The details of Villa's move to Los Colchoneros is a complicated one with the fee of a reported £4.5 million spread over three years, depending on the strikers length of contract.
The deal will reportedly be worth up to £4.5 million with an initial fee of £1.8 million paid initially and an additional £1.7 million next summer if the striker remains at the Vicente Calderon. The final installment once again will be due in 2015 if Villa decides to pen a further years contract.
Atletico had been strongly linked with Pablo Osvaldo of AS Roma in recent weeks, although for £4.5 million, signing a player of the calibre of David Villa allows part of the hole left by the prolific Falcao to be filled, and plenty more money in the kitty to add further quality to the squad
