Bordeaux announce La Liga loan move for Diego Rolán but Malaga are cautious

Despite the club’s official Twitter account confirming the deal, officials at Malaga CF are a lot more guarded.

French club Girondins de Bordeaux announced on Sunday that striker Diego Rolán would be joining Malaga on a season-long loan deal but insiders at La Rosaleda club say that negotiations are still ongoing and that details still need ironing out, according to Diario SUR.

A forward is the missing piece in the puzzle for Malaga who can only count on Borja Bastón, who joined on loan from Swansea City earlier in the window, and youngster Youssef En-Nesyri in attacking areas.

Rolán certainly fits the bill. At 24 years of age, the pacey Uruguayan international has attracted plenty of interest, including from La Liga rivals Deportivo La Coruña.

However, it appears that Malaga have stolen a march and could confirm the deal before the close of the window later this week.

Rolán would occupy the non-EU spot in the squad vacated by Michael Santos, also Uruguayan, who has joined Segunda side Sporting Gijón on a season-long loan.

In his four seasons in France, Rolán has scored 32 goals in 121 games. After an initial rough settling-in period, the forward scored 15 goals in 36 games in the 2014-15 season and last year bagged nine in 29 appearances after falling behind Alexandre Mendy and Gaëtan Laborde in the pecking order.

Bordeaux, however, still have high hopes for him and this week have extended his deal with the club by another two years.

Should he sign, Diego Rolán will be Malaga’s twelfth summer signing, joining Roberto, Diego González, Paul Baysse, Borja Bastón, Cenk Gonen, Adrián, Emanuel Cecchini, Andrés Prieto and Esteban Rolón (plus Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Juankar who made their loan deals permanent) in passing through the revolving door at La Rosaleda.
