After winning six La Liga titles, three Champions League crowns, two Spanish Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups Barcelona Captain Carlos Puyol announced that he will be leaving the club in June.
The 35-year old Spaniard announced that after multiple knee injuries he no longer feels that he can recover to the level of which he demands himself to play with the Catalan giants and would have a proper goodbye press conference at the end of the season.
After coming up through the infamous Barca youth academies, Puyol has enjoyed a 19-year career including 593 appearances for Barca. Puyol trails only Xavi, having the second most ever appearances in club history.
In 15 tours with the club, Puyol has suffered 8 knee injuries and have limited him this campaign to only 12 total matches all year.
The club and player announced only one year after signing a contract extension through 2016 that they have terminated the final two years of the contract. Puyol was quoted as saying that he will likely take the summer to recover and fully heal.
