Good evening all,
With only hours to go until the January transfer window opens, to a flurry of blurry photos and friends of friends seeing Lionel Messi at lunch with Harry Redknapp, it’s only natural that most of the day’s football news revolves around transfer speculation. Here is the day as I’ve seen it.
Demba Ba was apparently discussing a deal last night to join Chelsea but any prospective deal has fallen through and current manager Alan Pardew has urged the striker to decide on his Newcastle future sooner rather than later.
In the meantime Mathieu Debuchy is expected to make a move to the Sports Direct Arena early in the window leaving Pardew plenty of time to search for the experienced centre back he so desperately desires.
Roberto Mancini has ruled out selling any of his players next month but conceded he may have to sign a few players to plug the gaps left by injury and international duty. I suspect he also loses sleep over the gap opening up between his team and Manchester rivals United despite the calm demeanour he portrays to the media.
Chelsea are still considering cashing in on Frank Lampard, whose current contract expires in the summer. Interim manager Rafa benitez has, however, refused to comment on the situation when questioned.
Danny Rose has quickly become a favourite during his loan spell to Sunderland leading the club to consider signing the left back on a permanent basis despite Spurs manager Andre Villas Boas insisting the defender will return to the club at the end of the season.
Sunderland are also looking to loan former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill on a short term loan during the MLS close season.
Another Australian, Tomas Rogic, is being linked with a move the Permier League with Reading reportedly interested. The club have already secured the services of Daniel Carrico according to a statement on Sporting Lisbon’s website.
Despite PSG’s insistence that they will only sign one playing in January speculation continues to surround the club, with Ashley Cole and Wesley Sneijder rumoured to be on the French club’s shopping list. Sporting director Leonardo has denied the reports and reiterated their earlier statement saying their dealings have already been completed.
LA Galaxy have completed the signing of Carlo Cudicini from Tottenham on a free transfer according to a club statement. The goalkeeper signed from Chelsea in 2009 but appearances were limited due to injury.
Remember, this is the place to keep up to date with any transfer news, whether it be rumour or confirmed deals. Check out the transfer section regularly. I hope you all have a great time tonight whatever you may be up to, and I’ll be back in the New Year.
