Daily Football Round-Up 3rd January

Good evening all,

Here is my daily round-up and as you’d expect it revolves largely around the transfer window which, despite being only three days old, is already in full swing.

Angelo Henriquez has completed a loan move from Manchester United to Wigan Athletic until the end of the season. United have also loaned out Bebe to Portuguese side Rio Ave for the same period.

Joe Cole is currently undergoing a medical at West Ham United and is expected to finalise a move from Liverpool in the next two days.

Liverpool have, as expected, completed the signing of Daniel Sturridge for a fee believed to be around 12 million. The English striker has been told he will have to be ‘versatile’ if he plans to become a first team regular.

Liverpool have loaned out young striker Adam Morgan to Rotherham United on a one month loan.

Matthieu Debuchy’s move to Newcastle United from French club Lille appears to be a done deal. We now await official confirmation from the club. Manager Alan Pardew has said he will now focus on a replacement for Demba Ba, who is in the final stages of agreeing a deal to join Chelsea, and has said he will be looking for someone “quick and powerful” to fill the void left by the Senegalese front man.

Christiano Ronaldo has today admitted he ‘still has feelings’ for Manchester United ahead of Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League tie with the Premier League club. While the Portuguese superstar is rumoured to be unhappy in Spain I suspect he was talking more in reference to the matchup than a prospective return.

Reports are emerging that Theo Walcott has signed a new deal at Arsenal and that an announcement will be made tomorrow. Manager Arsene Wenger earlier stated that signing the England International to a new deal would take precedence over any new signings in January.

Zeki Fryers has signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Standard Liege. Spurs pursued the left-back during the summer transfer window before he opted for a move to Belgium. He has made seven appearances this season and the deal is believed to in the region of £3 million.

Norwich City are reportedly preparing a £5 million bid for Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal. Canaries manager Chris Hughton was in Glasgow on Wednesday watching the Hoops 1-0 win over Motherwell.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2017.

James Milner has revealed his determination to break back into the Manchester City first team following a frustrating start to the season.

Wigan Athletic midfielder David Jones is hoping the club sign a few players in January saying that the competition for places would offer a boost to everyone.
