Daily Football Round-Up Friday 15th March

After a crazy night in the Europa League the world of football has comparatively calmed down today, a day which is as much about fixtures as anything else. The Champions League and Europa League quarter-final draws were made, and I’ve listed them both at the bottom of the article.

The other fixtures confirmed were the FA Cup semi-finals, with Wigan playing Millwall on Saturday April 15th and Manchester City playing either Chelsea or Manchester United on the Sunday.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has voiced concern over Rio Ferdinand’s recall to the England set-up by saying he will have to speak to the club doctor regarding the defenders on-going  back problem before any decision can be made.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that neither Raheem Sterling nor Suso will be loaned out for the remainder of the season.

Southampton have accepted the FA charge of failing to control their players during the game against Norwich in which the players angrily surrounded referee Mark Clattenburg after a penalty decision. The protests continued after the final whistle, despite the fact that the penalty was saved and The Saints now have to pay a £20,000 fine.

Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has been told he requires surgery on a niggling hamstring injury meaning he will miss the rest of the season.

Former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger has admitted a charge of common assault following an incident in Newcastle city centre on Wednesday evening. The former England Under-19 player has been given conditional bail and will appear again on April 9 for sentencing.

UEFA have confirmed they will make a decision on Friday over whether to open a case regarding the reports of racist chanting during last night’s game between Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur. Milan fans were heard making monkey chants towards Emmanuel Adebayor and one was seen waving an inflatable banana at the Togo striker.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema has been fined £18,000 had been banned from driving for eight months after being found guilty of drinking 134mph (216kph) in a 62mph (100kph) zone.
