Daily Football Round-Up Thursday 24th January

Good evening, here is a round-up of today’s football news. As expected it revolves very much around transfers, a theme that will continue until the start of February.

According to Sky Sports, Wilfried Zaha is set to undergo a medical at Manchester United in the next 48 hours. United are expected to sign Zaha this week and then loan him back to Crystal Palace until the end of the season.

Huddersfield Town have sacked manager Simon Grayson today even though he led the team to promotion last season. Huddersfield currently sit in 18th and only seven points above the relegation places.

Schalke have rejected a second bid from Tottenham to bring Lewis Holtby to London this month. Holtby will join Spurs in the summer anyway, but due to the Sandro injury manager AVB has expressed an interest in signing the midfielder sooner.

In case you haven’t heard, Eden Hazard kicked at a Swansea ball boy during last night’s Capital One Cup semi-final. The FA have now said they will look into the incident before making any decisions on what to do about it.

Massadio Haidara has passed his medical at Newcastle United and has now signed a five-and-a-half year deal for Alan Pardew’s team.

Silvain Distin has signed a one year deal at Everton, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2014.

Federico Macheda is expected to sign for Stuttgart on loan until the end of the season in the next few days.

It’s understood that Arsenal are locked in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund with the aim of signing German international defender Mats Hummels. The centre back is valued at around £18 million.
