Good evening all,
We have another night of Capital One cup action to look forward after last night’s shock in Bradford. Tonight we see Swansea travel to London to face Chelsea for their semi-final first leg tie. Here I take a look at the football news that has taken place away from the stadiums and pitches.
Liverpool starlet Andre Wisdom has signed a new long term deal with the club today. He joins a string of players to sign new deals at Anfield since Brendan Rodgers took charge in the summer.
Sunderland have completed the signing of Alfred N’Diaye from Turkish club Bursaspor for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old Frenchman can operate in a defensive midfield role or at the centre of defence.
Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri has admitted he would love to sign Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli but is unsure whether a deal would be realistic. He went on to say he’d love him to come in and partner Edinson Cavani despite many expecting City to make a bid for the Uruguayan.
Tottenham Hotspur target Leandro Damiao has been linked with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan but the club have said no bids have yet been received in January. When asked about the striker moving in January club president Giovanni Luigi said, “When we get an important offer, we will evaluate it. But to sell in January, this would have to be a very, very attractive offer.”
Andrea Pirlo thinks Chelsea would be mad to let Frank Lampard leave the club and the Italian still rates him as one of the best in the world. He went on to say that if he wanted to come to Italy he would be welcomed with open arms and could easily have four more years at the top.
Newcastle United target Loic Remy could stay at Marseille despite increasing speculation that he will depart this month. Talking to La Provence Elie Baup said, “For a year, every transfer window, we have been talking about his departure, but he is still there. Maybe he still will be in the summer.”
Everton are interested in signing Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk according to the defender. “I know that clubs are following me and that Everton are one of them,” Van Dijk told Voetbal International.
Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is hoping his injury problems are behind him after missing the first few month of this season due to a broken metatarsal suffered in pre-season. “I feel good, I’ve been able to play a few games now and it’s just a case of keeping that going,” said Smalling.
Mainz have denied a bid has been received from Arsenal for striker Adam Szalaiamid rumours that a transfer was imminent. Mainz manager Christian Heidel said, “We don’t want to let our striker go in the winter transfer window. But that’s another situation if someone willing to pay 20 million Euros for him.”
Fulham target Maarten Stekelenburg won’t be leaving Roma in January as things stand, but the goal keeper’s agent said he is still considering a move after falling down the pecking order at the Italian club. He said, “There are no offers from other clubs, but we are at the beginning of January and everything is still possible.”
