De Laurentiis: Benitez is the new coach of Napoli

Napoli have appointed former Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez as the clubs new manager on a two-year contract according to President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

In an interview with Sky Italia, De Laurentiis was quoted as stating:

“Benítez is the new coach of Napoli. I gave myself a birthday present. I’ll make it official in the next few days as he has to end his time at Chelsea, but he’ll be our new coach for the next two years.”

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with the position after former manager Walter Mazzarri left the club last week after four years at the helm in Naples.

Benitez has also been heavily linked with Paris St. Germain with manager Carlo Ancelotti looking to replace Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

It appears we are just awaiting official confirmation of Benitez appointment in Italy, where he will take on a side who finished 2nd in Serie A last year and qualified for next seasons Champions League.
