The frosty relationship between Southampton boss Ronald Koeman and Manchester United boss Lois Van Gaal will surely give added drama to tonight’s Premier League match between third and fourth on a cold December evening. The two dutch legends’ history has been well documented over the past week with the initial friction happening when Koeman was manager of Ajax with Van Gaal technical director, with the former accusing Van Gaal of undermining him in occasions during their time together.

However, Koeman insists that tonight will be Southampton against Manchester United and not himself against Van Gaal as they shake hands as opposing managers for the first time.

That being said, this fixture has a lot more significance that most previous ones due to Southampton dramatic rise to the Champions League places this season and despite both sides carrying significant injuries, Koeman insists that Manchester United are no longer strong favourites with many believing Southampton can get a result and could even be considered as favourites following their impressive home record.

A victory for Southampton will mean they will reclaim their third place after West Ham overtook them following their 3-1 against Swansea.

The same can be said for Manchester United who will also go third if they can snatch a victory this evening at St Mary’s.
