Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Augsburg

Eintracht Frankfurt and Augsburg battled to an even 1-1 draw with Jan Rosenthal levelling the scores following Raul Bobadilla’s opener at the Commerzbank-Arena.

A dull first half burst into life when Augsburg took the lead after 33 minutes when a Paul Verhaegh delivery was flicked on by Andre Hahn into the path of Raul Bobadilla who had the easy job of poking it into the back of the net. Tobias Werner was a nuisance, standing slightly in the Goalkeeper’s way with Frankfurt appealing for offside, which he was, the goal stood though.

Frankfurt levelled seven minutes later however after Pirmin Schwegler’s cross wasn’t cleared properly and Jan Rosenthal was there from point-blank range to powerfully volley Frankfurt level. 1-1.

The equalizer was no shock, Frankfurt burst into life after going behind. Straight from the kick off they almost levelled. German U-21 international Sebastian Jung picked up the ball and lofted a pinpoint ball into Sebastian Schrock who attempted a square ball which would have set up an easy tap-in but it was intercepted brilliantly and cleared.

They had an even better chance when a neat little flick from Rosenthal found Johannes Flum who played in Joselu but his shot was saved brilliantly by Marwin Hitz who knocked it onto the outside of the post.

The home side had another superb chance when Constant Djakpa’s left hand cross was headed goal wards by Schrock but Hitz was there to deny him again, clawing it away when it was destined for the corner.

It wasn’t always this lively in the first half however, the first decent shot of the game didn’t arrive until the 31st minute. Hahn hit an ambitious driven shot from long way out that went narrowly wide.

There was a brighter opening in the second half with Augsburg relatively close to taking the lead again after Werner whipped in a cross but it was over hit and Bobadilla failed to connect with it, if he had it would definitely have been 1-2.

Momentum failed to build in the second period though with no other major shots to note until the final few minutes.

Augsburg really should have snatched a winner when substitute Arkadiusz Milik was played through on goal, all he had to was slot it in but he scuffed his shot into the floor in an attempted chip, Kevin Trapp made a decent save and it landed at the feet of Milik again but Trapp made an even better save to keep out the rebound. Frankfurt had a very lucky escape and held on for a point.
