Ipswich Town have this evening confirmed the signing of Colchester United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth.

The twenty-four year old has signed a contract until the summer of 2015, with an option of a further year.

Wordsworth was very highly rated at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, and had been linked with moves to the Premier League a couple of years ago.

He made his debut for the League 1 side in 2007, after graduating through their youth academy.

After playing regularly for Colchester throughout his career to date, he has clocked up over 200 apperances for the club scoring a respectable 35 goals in his time there.

He was made captain of the club in September, and has already trained with his new side earlier in January before finalising a move.

On making the move to the Championship, the midfielder confirmed on the Ipswich Town Official Website: “I’m obviously delighted to be here. It’s a big challenge and a big opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get going,”

“I had opportunities to move last January but this feels the right time and the right club to make that step up.

“I can remember playing here for Colchester in a pre-season game a few years back and looking around the place and thinking what a big club Ipswich is and now I’m relishing the opportunity I’ve got here.”
