Leigertwood to lead midfielder exodus at Reading

In the final part of a trio of articles exclusively on the Football Family today is the news that midfielder Mikele Leigertwood looks set for a move away from the Championship side.

The powerful central midfielder has been informed by Nigel Adkins that he will have limited opportunities next season with the likes of Danny Guthrie, Hope Akpan, Jem Karacan and new signing Danny Williams ahead of him in the pecking order.

It is clear Adkins wants players who are expressive on the ball and Leigertwood unfortunately doesn’t fit into that mould, with the player missing the clubs pre-season camp in Portugal to try and overcome his ankle injury which has been evident over the past few months.

The 30-year old is interested in a new opportunity away from the Madejski Stadium, although there has been no concrete offers for the player at this stage, with media reports of a linking up with former manager Brian McDermott at Leeds United.

One other player who will be leaving the club is former Sporting Lisbon Captain Daniel Carrico.

The 24-year old who joined in a £500,000 deal in January is looking for pastures new after the clubs relegation, with a deal now agreed with Spanish outfit Sevilla.

He looks set to depart in the coming weeks along with Mikele Leigertwood which will free up much needed wages in their quest to reinforce the striker department.

In other news, young academy graduate Jake Taylor has impressed his new boss this summer and has been told he will be part of the first team picture for the coming season.

Finally, the player who failed a medical last month at the club wasn’t from Southampton. I must have misintrepreted the information at the time, so apologies for that! it even made it into a few national newspapers. Still unsure who the player actually was, but it definitely wasn’t Billy Sharp or Charlie Austin.
