Liverpool have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfiedler Philippe Countinho from Inter Milan.
The twenty-year old has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League during the January Transfer Window, with Southampton also showing a strong interest in the player.
The creative midfielder has found opportunities at the San Siro limited over the past two seasons, and is hoping a move to England will allow the Brazilian International to fulfill his undoubted potential.
Coutinho spent last season on loan at La Liga side Espanyol where he was in brilliant form scoring five goals in sixteen appearances under the guidance of now Southampton Manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The day is worth around £8.5 million and the player underwent a successfull medical with the club yesterday.
He was granted a work permit early today, and Liverpool have announced the player has signed a long term contract.
Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti confirmed on the move:
Moratti told inter.it: 'There are opportunities there to be seized. Sometimes certain players need the chance to play more."
"And that's why I think this could be a great opportunity for a Coutinho, and a deal that could go very well for us too."
