Liverpool have told Barcelona that they will not accept their €80m bid until after the Champions League qualifiers.
The Catalan side have held a firm interest in Brazilian play-maker Coutinho this summer as they look to bolster their offensive midfield options ahead of a title challenge against rivals Real Madrid.
A silence in interest had came about at the start of July due to links with former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho and whilst he may still be signed this summer – Coutinho is also still wanted.
Sky Sports have claimed that a new and improved deal from Barca will be submitted this week, and be significantly higher than the one of £70m last week.
Liverpool have welcomed the interest of Barca but do not want to sell the former Espanyol midfielder with boss Jurgen Klopp looking to make a Premier League title challenge this term.
And, it is now understood that Anfield bosses will hold off any negotiations until after the club have played their Champions League qualifier.
Coutinho signed a new deal with the Reds last season until 2022 but talks with Barca’s Neymar have been reported, with whom the midfielder also plays with at international level for Brazil.
