Reading defender Alex Pearce looks set to leave the club this summer, with a move to Liverpool reportedly being close to completion.
The twenty-four year old had been an ever present for The Royals over the past few seasons, before being used sparingly in the clubs Premier League campaign due to a dispute over a new contract which would have made him one of the highest earners at the club.
He looks set to continue his career in England’s top flight with a free transfer move to Liverpool under former manager Brendan Rodgers, who gave him his first team chance when he was Reading manager.
Pearce, who was Readings Player of the Season in the Championship winning side last season, is a no nonsense centre-half, who looks to clear danger at the earliest opportunity, rather than staying composed and passing out from the back, which goes against the philsophy of what Rodgers is trying to implement at the five time European Champions.
Once described as the next ‘John Terry’ by Rodgers, he looks set for a move to Anfield in the summer, and will leave his current employers heading back to the Championship after relegation was confirmed on Sunday after a 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers.
