Todays round-up will mainly consist of transfer news as even though we are only early in January, there has been a lot of activity from most clubs in the Premier League and in England

Chelsea have completed the signing of 27-year-old striker Demba Ba from Newcastle for a fee of £7.5 million, which was the release clause that Ba had in his contract at Newcastle. The Senegalese international performed very well for Newcastle in the two years he was at the club, scoring 29 goals in 54 appearances

West Ham have completed the signing of Joe Cole on a free transfer from Liverpool. There had been a lot of speculation concerning Cole’s futute in recent weeks as QPR were rumoured to have been interested in obtaining the midfielders services. Reports are saying that Liverpool had to pay the former England international £3 million to get him off of their wage bill

Newcastle have completed the signing of French right back Mathieu Debuchy from Ligue 1 side Lille for a fee that is believed to be in the region of £5 million. Debuchy has been linked with a move to Newcastle since last summer, where a deal was almost done, but Lille wanted more for Debuchy than Newcastle could pay

QPR have signed Tal Ben Haim on a free transfer. Ben Haim had been training with QPR since early December, and Harry Redknapp felt that Ben Haim had deserved the contract. Ben Haim hasn’t had a club since his departure from financially stricken club Portsmouth in the summer

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed that the club has made contact with Arsenal over a possible move for striker Marouane Chamakh. The Morrocan international has found it tough at the Emirates since his move in 2010 from French side Bordeaux as he has only managed to score eight times in 40 appearances for The Gunners

Ryan Shawcross has signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal contract with Stoke City. Shawcross had 18 months left on his old contract and their was lots or rumours saying that he could be leaving the club, but signing this new contract has confirmed that he is staying put at Stoke

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has also signed a new contract, Jagielka’s old contract ran out in 2015, but he has now signed an extension which will keep him at Goodison Park until 2017. Jagielka has been instrumental in defence for Everton this season helping them to many crucial wins

Ipswich have completed the double loan signing of Nottingham Forest striker David McGoldrick and Hull City striker Aaron McLean until the end of the season

Doncaster Rovers have completed the signing of Fleetwood Town midfielder Lee Fowler for an undisclosed fee

Southend United have completed the signing of midfielder Marc Laird. Laird had already been on loan at Southend since October, playing fifteen times.But he was released from parent club Leyton Orient as he was surplus to requirements, this then prompted Shrimpers boss Paul Sturrock to sign him on a permanent basis
