Lunchtime Round-Up 7th January

Afternoon all,

Dean Saunders has been appointed as the new manager of Championship club Wolves after undergoing successful talks over the weekend. Wolves announced last night that a deal had been done to bring Saunders to Molinuex from his old club Doncaster, and they just needed to sort out the formalities. Saunders appointment comes after Stale Solbakken was sacked after a poor run of results

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Taison from Ukranian side Metalist Kharkiv, but they are set to face some competition from an unnamed Premier League side for his signature. If Taison signs for Chelsea, he will become the clubs second signing in January following the arrival of Demba Ba from Newcastle

Tottenham's move for Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby could be brought forward to January if both Tottenham and Schalke are able to agree on a transfer fee. Holtby will already be joining Spurs at the end of the season on a free transfer once his Schalke contract expires, but the deal could potentially happen in January if Spurs can come up with the £1.6 million fee that Schalke are demanding

Sunderland have agreed a fee with Turkish side Bursaspor for French U21 holding midfielder Alfred N'Diaye. Sunderland first approached Bursaspor last week over a possible transfer, but their bid was rejected. But it is now believed that a fee of £3.2 million has now been agreed

New Nottingham Forest boss Alex McLeish has admitted that he wants to re-sign Norwich City defender Elliott Ward. Ward's first loan deal with Forest expired on January 1st and in this time he played 11 matches. McLeish wants to have Ward on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move in the summer

Liverpool have made a £7 million bid for Cagliari's Italian defender Davide Astori, but they look set to lose out to Southampton as they have bid £9.5 million for the defender

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has got his eyes firmly on French pair Loic Remy and Yann M'Villa. It is believed that Remy would cost £8 million and M'Villa would cost £6.5 million

Brentford have extended the loan of Everton defender Jake Bidwell until 7th February

Manchester United have recalled defender Reece Brown from League One side Coventry. The 21-year-old moved to The Ricoh Arena in July and in that time he played 10 times

Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that John Sheridan is going to be appointed their new manager. This comes after Carl Fletcher was sacked on new years day after a poor run of results

And finally,

Good news for all Morecambe fans here, the club is offering all fans free entry to the clubs game versus Dagenham & Redbridge this Tuesday down to poor attendances this season. Even if you don't support Morecambe I would advise you to go down to the game, as it's a free game of football and it's also a lot better quality than you would see down at your local league club
