According to Mediaset, Chelsea have this afternoon agreed a deal for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani for a fee reported to be around £55 million.
Jose Mourinho is wasting no time since being appointed the clubs next manager, and had a strong interest in the Uruguayan International when he was in charge of former club Real Madrid.
Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, said yesterday that the London club were discussions about Edinson Cavani and that a day may not be far off:
“Chelsea are interested in Cavani and they will call me soon,” De Laurentiis told Napoli’s official radio station, Radio Marte.
“I’m very happy that his brother has said that he will stay, but if he did decide to go to Chelsea we would take time out to think and replace him with people worthy of replacing him.”
The prolific forward was top scorer in Serie A last season, scoring 29 goals in 34 games which is a terrific return, and one in which Chelsea want to tie down at the earliest opportunity.
If Cavani does arrive at Stamford Bridge, he will be competing for a starting role with Demba Ba, Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres, who has been heavily linked with a summer move away from the club.
