Messi looked jaded in Barca’s opening 2-0 win over Real Betis in La Liga on Sunday evening at Camp Nou and reports on Monday morning have linked the Argentine with a sensational move to the Premier League with Pep Guardiola’s City.
Whilst reports of a move have been rife in English media, Spanish media have claimed that Messi will still sign a new deal with Barca and that he is determined to bring success back to the club.
Neymar’s recent exit to Paris Saint Germain, aswell as a number of questionable decisions from Barca’s board have reportedly made Messi dissatisfied with life at the club.
Sporting director Robert Fernandez has rejected those claims and insisted that Barca’s number ten will pen a new and improved contract.
“There is total agreement for Messi’s renewal on both sides,” Fernandez told BeIn Sports on Sunday evening.
“We are waiting for the right time to sign it, there’s nothing else to it. We already know how key Messi is not only for us but he’s a very important player for all of football.”
Messi came close to racking up his 350th La Liga goal against Betis, whom Barca beat 2-0 thanks to an own goal and a single strike from Sergi Roberto.
