Newcastle United have today confirmed the signing of defender Mathieu Debuchy from Lille.
He has penned a for a deal believed to be around £5 million on a five-and-a half year contract
The right back attended their match yesterday in the home defeat to Everton, and had already agreed personal terms before undergoing a medical today.
Debuchy is best friends with Yohan Cabaye, who also came to St. James Park from Lille just over a year ago, and will wear squad number 26.
The deal represents a coup for Newcastle, who have been courting the pacey France International since the summer, and helps fill the void of the departing Danny Simpson, who has yet to agree a contract extension.
The deal will help ease the pain of star striker Demba Ba moving on to current European champions Chelsea, and will be the first signing of the January transfer window for Manager Alan Pardew.
