Bromley Cling to Slender League Two Summit as MK Dons Lurk

The Ravens hold a precarious two-point advantage at the League Two summit with 12 crucial fixtures set to shake up the promotion picture this Saturday.

Saturday's League Two fixtures promise the sort of drama that makes the fourth tier such compulsive viewing, with Bromley desperately trying to keep Milton Keynes Dons at arm's length in what's shaping up to be a proper dogfight for automatic promotion.

The Ravens find themselves perched somewhat nervously at the summit with 76 points from 38 games, which sounds impressive until you realise MK Dons are breathing down their necks with 74 points and presumably the sort of confidence that comes from being a club that's actually supposed to be at this level.

Milton Keynes will be eyeing any slip-up from Bromley like vultures circling overhead, knowing that two points is essentially nothing at this stage of the season. It's the kind of margin that can disappear faster than a decent pie at half-time.

Cambridge United, meanwhile, are doing their best not to be forgotten in third place with 69 points from 37 games. The U's have a game in hand on the top two, which could prove crucial if they can actually win it – always the tricky part, that.

With 12 matches scheduled across Saturday's programme, split between 12:30 and 15:00 kick-offs, there's plenty of opportunity for the table to receive a proper shuffle. League Two being League Two, you can guarantee at least three results that will have everyone scratching their heads come five o'clock.

One fixture that catches the eye is Walsall hosting Newport County, which on paper looks like a mismatch. The Saddlers sit comfortably in 10th with 57 points, while Newport find themselves in the considerably less comfortable 22nd position with just 31 points to their name. County will need to find something special if they're to avoid what could be an uncomfortable afternoon in the West Midlands.

The beauty of League Two is its unpredictability – just when you think you've got it figured out, some team you'd written off goes and beats the league leaders. With promotion places still very much up for grabs and the relegation battle equally fierce, Saturday's fixtures could prove pivotal in determining who's playing where next season.

For Bromley, the pressure is on to prove their early-season heroics weren't just a flash in the pan. For MK Dons, it's about showing they belong back in League One. As for the rest, well, there's still plenty to play for in a division where nothing is ever quite as straightforward as it seems.
