Woking Put Five Past Hapless Morecambe in National League Rout

The Cards delivered a masterclass in clinical finishing as they demolished visiting Morecambe 5-1 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, with Sanderson bagging a brace in a performance that suggests they're finishing the season in style.

If Morecambe were hoping for a gentle April afternoon in Surrey, someone forgot to tell Woking. The Cards served up a five-star performance at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, dismantling their visitors 5-1 in what can only be described as a footballing lesson.

It didn't take long for the home side to stamp their authority on proceedings. Beautyman opened the floodgates in the 12th minute, setting the tone for what would become an increasingly uncomfortable afternoon for the Shrimps. You had to feel for Morecambe - barely a dozen minutes on the clock and already facing an uphill battle.

To their credit, the visitors didn't simply roll over. Nolan pulled one back in the 41st minute, briefly threatening to inject some drama into the proceedings. For a fleeting moment, it looked like we might have a proper contest on our hands. How wonderfully naive that seems in hindsight.

Drewe and Ashford had already extended Woking's lead before the real fireworks began. Enter Sanderson, who clearly fancied himself for the match ball. His first arrived in the 77th minute, by which point Morecambe's defensive structure had seemingly gone on an early holiday.

But Sanderson wasn't finished there. Deep into stoppage time, with Morecambe presumably counting down the seconds until they could escape this ordeal, he popped up again in the 93rd minute to complete his brace and put the cherry on top of what had been a thoroughly dominant display.

The timing couldn't be better for Woking, who are approaching the business end of their National League campaign with just four fixtures remaining. This kind of ruthless efficiency in front of goal will serve them well as they look to finish the season strongly.

For Morecambe, this was the sort of afternoon that managers prefer to forget quickly. When you're shipping five goals away from home, there aren't many positives to cling to beyond Nolan's solitary strike. They'll be hoping this was merely a blip rather than a sign of things to come.

As comprehensive victories go, this was about as convincing as they come. Woking's attacking quartet all found their range, while their defensive colleagues can reflect on a job well done in keeping Morecambe's threat to a minimum. With performances like this, the Cards are certainly making their remaining games worth watching.
