Queens Park Rangers and Norwich kicked off the weekend with more of a whimper than a bang as the game ended goalless, leaving QPR with one game less to escape relegation. Fortunately for them Wigan and Southampton played out a draw as did Aston Villa, who travelled to Everton.
Sunderland were victims of another late Reading goal at the Madejski and a late goal at St. James’ Park (I know, I know) from debutant Moussa Sissoko helped Newcastle to all three points in a thrilling game against Chelsea.
There were 1-0 home wins for Arsenal and West Ham against Stoke and Swansea respectively, with Andy Carroll marking his return from injury with the winning goal for The Irons. Wayne Rooney scored the only goal as Manchester United travelled to Fulham and stretched their lead at the top of the table to ten points with rivals Manchester City playing on Sunday.
Along with City hosting Liverpool on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur also travelled to the West Midlands to face West Brom in the early kick off. The Baggies had Goran Popov sent off early in the second half and Spurs proceeded to dominate although it took another Gareth Bale wonder goal to seal all the points for the visitors. The late kick off was a game of spectacular goals that ended 2 apiece, a result that see’s both teams lose ground on rivals occupying positions they hope to hold come the end of the season.
