Reading have this morning announced Nigel Adkins as their new manager on a contract until the summer of 2016.
The former Southampton boss, who was suprisingly sacked two months ago at St.Marys, has been spending his time abroad overlooking coaching techniques in Europe, spending time most recently with Budesliga side Hamburg and their manager Thorsten Fink.
He will be joined by Andy Crosby who will be Adkins Assistant Manager, who also went with him to Southampton once he departed Scunthorpe in 2010.
Adkins has always been the clubs number 1 target, and after an unsuccessful attempt to lure Brighton manager Gus Poyet away from the Amex, Reading owner Anton Zingarevich made it his mission to get his main man in as soon as possible.
It is believed the former Scunthorpe physio will be handed a considerable transfer warchest for the summer, whether the club are relegated, which looks likely being 7 points adrift, or he does produce a miracle and they stay in the Premier League.
It is a great coup to bring Adkins to Reading, with his passing style and experience in the Premier League, and of promotions within the football league being a key element to a mans CV which was a must for Zingarevich.
He will take his new side to the Emirates this weekend, where he looks to avenge the nightmares of a 6-1 defeat to the Gunners when in charge of Southampton earlier in the season.
With 8 games left it looks a tall order for Reading to produce the unthinable, but with a new man at the helm in Adkins, the future is bright at the Madejski, whether they stay up or not.
