Reading set for double swoop

Reading are believed to be close to a deal for Nottingham Forest duo Simon Cox and Jamie Mackie, Cox on a permanent deal and Mackie on an initial loan. It is reported that the deals could be done as early as today, with Cox set for a second medical ahead of his arrival from the City Ground.

Simon Cox would be making a return to the Madejski having come through the youth ranks at the Berkshire club. Cox struggled to get any first team football with the Royals, making only 2 appearances in his time with the club. Cox showed his potential at Swindon Town, and was soon snapped up by West Brom, and later joined Forest. Cox has struggled for goals at Forest scoring only 13 in 73 appearances, but his work rate is never questioned. A fresh start and a return to the his hometown club could be what Cox needs to rediscover his goalscoring form.

Jamie Mackie looks set to be a ready-made replacement for the injured Garath McCleary, who looks to be out for around 3-4 months. Mackie can play on the right hand side of midfield, or up front. Mackie joined Forest last year from QPR for around £1 million and has scored 4 goals in 45 appearances. Mackie had a huge role to play for Forest last season playing the majority of their games and become a fans favourite at the City Ground, as he did at QPR.

Reading may also complete a deal for Anton Ferdinand this week, as he watched on from the hospitality suite as Reading took on Swansea in a pre-season friendly. Leicester's Dean Hammond is also rumoured to be on the club's radar, as well as Crystal Palace's Glenn Murray, although the Royals could face competition from Fulham.

It could be an exciting few weeks for Royals fans now the takeover seems to be nearly complete and funds for transfers are becoming available.
