Reading have this evening completed the signing of Fulham defender Stephen Kelly on a permanent deal.
The Republic of Ireland full back who is comfortable on the left or right has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with The Royals, who currently sit 5 points adrift in the Premier League releation zone.
He moved for an undisclosed fee to The Madejski stadium, and will be available for their next Premier League fixture against Newcastle United after not being registered in time to face West Brom tomorrow.
Manager Brian McDermott has stated many times that he is looking for players who have Premier League experience, and Kelly certianly fits the bill after playing over 125 times at the top level in England.
He will wear the number 27 shirt this season, and will look to help stabilise a defence which is one of the worst during the first half of the season.
Reading Chairman John Madejski stated on the clubs official website:
“It’s a great signing for Reading Football Club. He’s a proven international and Premier League player and he seems like a lovely guy as well.”
“We’ve had some great success stories with players from Ireland in recent years and I’m sure the signing of Stephen will be no different. I’m delighted he has signed and we all wish him very well during his career at Reading.”
