Reading have signed their first player of the January transfer window in the form of Portuguese defender Daniel Carrico according to reliable sources from Portugal.
The 24 year old has spent the past five years with Sporting Lisbon, where he has captained the side and has been linked to clubs such as Barcelona and both Manchester sides last season.
He can also be utilised in a defensive midfield position, due to his technique and distribution, which could mean Mikele Leigertwood to be finally displaced from the Reading side.
He has signed until the summer of 2015 with the option of a further year and has joined for a fee of around £700,000 with a future sell on %. His contract in Portugal was due to end in June which has led to the nominal fee being paid to bring him to The Madejski Stadium in January.
Carrico was first revealed on The Football Family last week, and met with Chief Executive Nigel Howe last night with his agent to finalise the remaining details in his contract.
Reading will officially announce the deal tomorrow (January 1st) once the Transfer Window has officially opened
