Reports from Portugal suggest Premier League relegation favourites Reading are looking to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Daniel Carrico on a free transfer.
The 24 year old is highly rated at the Estádio José Alvalade and could be a strong defensive signing for a side who have the worst defence in the top flight in England.
Carrico can also be operated in a defensive midfield position due to his distribution and technique which has led to him being linked last year to Europes elite clubs including Barcelona and both Manchester sides.
A natural leader, Carrico has captained Sporting Lisbon, and could be a direct replacement for Alex Pearce, who is also out of contract at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool under former manager Brendan Rodgers.
With his contract ending in the summer, it appears the defender is looking for an opportunity abroad in The Premier League, and Reading appear to be in the driving seat for his signature at this stage, with some reports suggesting a deal is close to being sealed.
On a free transfer, this would be an ideal piece of business for Reading, and with reports of interest in Arsenals Andrey Arshavin and Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone it could be an exciting January Transfer Window for the real Hoops.
