Reading have agreed a fee for the permanent transfer of Fulham defender Stephen Kelly.
The Republic of Ireland International has over 200 games of Premier League experience under his belt which is exactly what Brian McDermott is looking for.
He will compete for a place at full back with Shaun Cummings, who recently signed a new contract and Chris Gunter who is still learning his trade in England's top flight.
The full back is currently undergoing a medical at Hogwood Park, and will discuss personal terms imminently with the club.
It is unclear whether he will sign before the weekend, but the deadline for midday to register him in time has passed, so he will be available for their game away at relegation rivals Newcastle United next week.
After starting his career at Tottenham, the defender has played for Birmingham City, Stoke City and Fulham to date.
He will be Readings third signing of the January Transfer Window after the acquisitions of Daniel Carrico and Hope Akpan.
