Real Madrid reject €75 million bid for Kovacic

According to AS, Real Madrid have reportedly rejected a  €75 million bid from Italian champions Juventus for their Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Naturally, the offer was rejected for the 23 year old.

There are some reports that claim Kovacic has a release clause in his contract worth €50 million. If these reports are true, there should be no reason as to why Madrid would be able to reject the offer.

There has been a question mark with Real Madrid last season and during the summer that Casemiro needs to have an adequate back up. It was initially thought that Marcos Llorente would be the one to step up to the mark and challenge the Brazilian for a starting place.

Having been one of the standout performers during pre-season, Kovacic is now seen as the biggest threat to Casemiro’s starting place.

Due to Kovacic’s great dribbling and attacking ability, he can be seen as a versatile player. With that, there is also the possibility of the Croatian either taking over from Kroos or his fellow countryman Modric in time.

Due to Juventus having signed Blaise Matuidi from PSG for a bargain price of €20 million, it seems unlikely there will be a follow up offer for the central midfielder.
