Lienhart, 20, has been an impressive regular for Madrid’s Castilla side since joining the Spanish capital side from Rapid Vienna in 2015, making one senior appearance in the mean-time.
Links to a move away from Santiago Bernabeu have been present this summer and it is now understood that a deal with newly promoted Freiburg is almost complete.
Streich told Sky Sport that a deal was in the latter stages and that Lienhart’s experience in the Real Madrid set-up will give his side an extra option.
“It will work, and that’s great,” he said. “He’s an Austrian U21 player who has been at Madrid for some time and learned a lot there.
“He’ll join us highly motivated. Those are the right ones for us, those who still must and want to learn a lot.”
The young defender will follow Fede Valverde (Deportivo) and Enzo Fernandez (Alaves) out of Castilla this summer.
