Ronaldo remains with Real Madrid as he gains captaincy

Cristiano Ronaldo will be Real Madrid’s third captain next season, according to reports.

Spanish daily AS has reported that the Portuguese forward will take over from compatriot Pepe, who left the club for Turkish side Besiktas earlier this month.

Ronaldo will play back up to Brazilian Marcelo and first choice captain Sergio Ramos, who has been integral to Madrid’s recent successes both in Europe and domestically, winning the La Liga and Champions League titles this season.

Having been linked with a summer exit due to variously reported disputes with the club – the move from Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is likely to end such rumors and put to bed any talk of an exit in the near future.

The report goes on to say that Ronaldo will have a say in team selection and participate in team meetings, feeding back any concerns from his team-mates to the clubs technical coaching staff.

The former Man United player is yet to publically discuss the rumor linking him with a summer exit but this move is expected to calm such talk.

Frenchman Karim Benzema, also linked with an exit has been announced by AS as the fourth captain, also playing a part in team meetings moving forward.
