With all the transfer rumours flying about it’s literally impossible to ascertain the real from the rubbish. One of the teams that knows this feeling as much (if not more!) as anyone is Tottenham Hotspur.
Their fans have had to endure enough ‘will he won’t he?’ regarding Leandro Damiao alone to make anyone sick to death of hearing it. Well with today’s appointment of technical director Franco Baldini many have started to wonder if the time has finally come to turn some of the rumours into reality.
The rumours circulating at the moment lead me to believe that chairman Daniel Levy envisions a Samba Spurs in the not so distant future. Along with the ever present Damiao rumours we have recently seen growing speculation that Corinthians midfielder Paulinho could be moving to north London in the not too distant future despite interest from Serie A. This move is expected to be worth £18 million if it does materialise.
Another player linked with a move to White Hart Lane is Atlético Mineiro's Bernard, with the player’s agent saying Spurs were the “only contenders” for the signature of the exciting youngster. Next we move on to Botafogo defender Doria, with The Mirror claiming Spurs are close to signing the 18-year-old but there is talk of third party ownership that could scupper any deal.
The final, and possibly most exciting, rumour is the possible reunion of manager Andre Villas Boas and former Porto striker Hulk. Despite only moving to Zenit St. Petersburg a year ago he is said to be unhappy with life in Russia and would welcome a move to the Premier League but Spurs face competition from Chelsea, amongst others.
Anyone else I’ve forgotten? Hang on, let me quickly look up Brazilian players. I’m sure we will see more being linked with moves to Tottenham before they kick off their season at Crystal Palace in August but we'll have to wait to see who will be joining Sandro or not.
