Sevilla have finalised a loan deal for Schalke’s defensive midfielder, Johannes Geis just hours before the Spanish transfer deadline.
Sevilla were looking for cover in midfield and Geis arrives initially on a season long loan deal but it is believed that there is an agreement in place for the German to sign permanently at the end of the season.
Geis began his career with Greuther Furth but moved to Mainz in 2013 where some excellent displays drew the attention of scouts and he eventually moved to Schalke in 2015. Geis has been regarded as one of the best young German midfielders for much of his career but he lost his place in the Schalke team in the second half of last season and they have decided that he is no longer required at the club and Sevilla have pounced to get their man.
Geis is 24 years old now and has never been capped for Germany at senior level but he has represented them at every underage level from under-16 to under-21. He will hope that this move will see him get back to top form and he can finally get that first international cap. Regardless of the players international future this looks like a good move for Sevilla as they have got a quality player in for the year and if it works out well they can bring him in permanently with his best years still ahead of him.
