After all the changes going on at Southampton, a deal for Vegard Forren was rumoured to be in jeopardy with new Manager Mauricio Pochettino taking charge today.
This has proved to be untrue with the FC Molde defender penning a permanent contract at St Marys for a fee believed to be around £4 million on a three-and-a-half year contract.
The Norwegian International moves to the club on a long term contract and will wear squad number 15
He is the clubs first signing of the January Transfer Window, and Saints have done well to beat off rival competition for his signature from Premier League Rivals Everton, Reading and most notably Liverpool, where the player was set to join on trial earlier in the week.
Pochettino confirmed earlier : “I think the signing of Forren is being finalised. He’s a centre half for the future. He had a lot of offers”
Forren “I’m really happy that it’s official, and that the deal went through. We met with the new manager and the owner yesterday”
The signing of the centre half will provide stability and leadership to an area of the team which had been shipping in a lot of goals over the first half of the season.
