Southampton star lured by Liverpool offered a 5 year deal by Saints

In a follow up to our post earlier today “Southampton Shut Up Shop“, Liverpool appear to be determined in acquiring the services of rising star Jay Rodriguez, probably much helped in his CV from the likes of Lallana and Lambert who have already jumped ship.

Ronald Koeman the new saints manager seemed determined in keeping his stars after much media speculation around Lovren and Schneiderlin. Now he has put the ball into the players hands by offering a seemingly 5 year deal to stay at Saints.

This is a tough decision for Rodriguez, as he won’t want to be seen following former colleagues in the pursuit of money with no apparent guarantee of game time (bench warmer comes to mind) when he is up against the likes of Sturridge, Sterling, his former team mate Lambert and Lallana for a starting place, dependant on where Rodgers is thinking of playing him. If he does decide to play them all the “Southampton Way” then its hard to see how the Liverpool players are going to slot into this new Southampool team, particularly if the deal goes through and Lovren joins them.

Whatever happens Brendan Rodgers is going to get some stick in the first game of the season from many many Saints fans..
