Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has this afternoon confirmed he wants to leave the club and move abroad.
“My reason for leaving is not the money. It is my family and my image.”
“I don’t feel comfortable here anymore.”
“Because of the paparazzi I could not go in my garden, I could not go to the supermarket.”
“My family have suffered and things got out of hand. My daughter and my wife have suffered.”
“I’m not prepared to continue to put up with the English press.”
The Uruguayan International has been a controversial talent during his two and a half year spell in England since joining from Ajax for a reported £22.8 million fee.
He is highly regarded as one of the finest strikers in World football, and has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish side Real Madrid, and the news of his imminent departure will only help fuel speculation that he will move to the Bernabeu.
Suarez has never been shown a red card in his time at Liverpool, although has encountered an 19-match ban during his tenure with the club, receiving a 10 game ban recently for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanonic, an 8 game ban for being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United left back Patrice Evra and a final game ban for a middle finger gesture to Fulham fans.
As talented as the 26-year old is, his off the field problems have continued, and Liverpool will look to use the money to strengthen various areas of their side, including a potential move for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen.
