Sunderland have today confirmed the signings of defenders Valentin Roberge and Modibo Diakite, along with midfielder Cabral.
French defender Roberge has moved to Wearside on a three-year deal, after his contract with Portugese side Maritimo ended last month. The 25-year-old is primarily used at the centre of defence, although he can also play at left back. He has spent the last three years playing for Maritimo where he appeared 58 times for the side including five in the Europa League.
Diakite has also signed a three-year deal after his contract at Serie A side Lazio expired last month. In his seven year stay at Lazio, he represented the club on 88 occasions. I'm sure the 26-year-old Frenchman will be a valuable asset to the Black Cats next season along with fellow Frenchman Roberge with both capable of being able to fill the large gap left by Titus Bramble and Matthew Kilgallon, who both left the club after their contracts expired.
Another player to sign a three-year-deal with the Premier League side is Cabral, who signed after his contract with FC Basel ran out last month. Cabral is a defensive midfielder who can also play at the heart of the defence, enjoyed a glorious season with FC Basel last season as they won the Swiss Super League, were runners up in the Swiss cup and the club also got the the semi final of the Europa League where they lost to eventual winners Chelsea.
