It has been reported today that Sunderland are looking to sign their third player of the January Transfer Window in the form of midfielder Paul Scharner from Hamburg.
The deal will see the former West Bromwich Albion player join the club on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanet move during the summer.
The thirty-two year old had spent six years in the Premier League, where he played for Wigan Athletic and most recently The Baggies, where he left at the end of last season to start a new venture in the German Bundesliga.
He has only made a handful of appearances since his move and Manager Thorsten Fink has told the player he isn't part of the clubs plans going forward and can look for pastures new.
If the midfielder, who can also operate in defence, joins the Premier League side he will be third signing of the window following the arrivals of Alfred N'Diaye and Kader Mangane.
