Tottenham Hotspurs have officially announced that Franco Baldini has taken the role of Technical Director at the club today.
The Italian played most notably for Bari and Bologna in Serie A and has worked under ex-England manager Fabio Capello at Roma, Real Madrid and England, the latter as assistant manager.
The 52-year-old is expected to be responsible for assisting in the signing of players in his latest role, a job that is essential as the club look to hold on to star players, like Gareth Bale, and Portuguese manager Andre Villas Boas amid speculation linking him to the Paris Saint Germain job.
AVB has admitted that, while he wants to stay loyal to the club that gave him a lifeline after an unsuccessful spell in charge of Chelsea, he wants to see investment in the team as he looks to improve on last season’s 5th place finish.
Baldini will have a job on his hands trying to part chairman Daniel Levy with his cash but many expect the signing of players to move up a gear now Spurs have the man to pick out potential world-beaters. You can be sure that Levy will have chosen his man carefully and fans will be hoping he shows him and the manager monetary support ahead of the coming season.
Levy took to the club’s website to welcome his latest recruit by saying:
"Franco is extremely well respected in the industry, possessing an extensive knowledge of players around the world. He will strengthen our football management team, particularly in the field of recruitment, working closely with Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood across all levels on the playing side."
