Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to push through a deal for Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby.
The German U21 Captain had agreed a pre-contract with the London club to join in the summer once his contract expired with the Bundesliga club.
Due to the injury to Sandro in the clubs 0-0 draw at Queens Park Rangers, Spurs are looking to act quickly with Holtby to sign him 6 months earlier than expected.
Spurs representatives have been in Germany for the past few days in an attempt to negotiate a fee with Schalke to prize the player away at the earliest opportunity.
A fee believed to be around £3 million has been reported, and this figure is likely to be enough for the player to move to England this month.
Holtby who has been courted by many clubs across Europe including Arsenal and Inter, put in a Man of the Match performance in his previous game for Schalke where he scored the winning goal in a 5-4 win over Hannover.
