Villarreal accept Fenerbahce offer for Soldado

Villarreal have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Turkish giants Fenerbahce over the sale of Roberto Soldado.

The 32-year-old striker will depart Estadio de la Ceramica after two years and with just one year remaining on his current contract.

Villarreal announced this afternoon that they have reached an agreement to sell Roberto Soldado to Fenerbahce subject to contract details and a medical.

The Yellows bought Soldado for £10 million back in 2015 and it’s though the Turkish giants are willing to pay €10 million for the former Spanish international.

At today’s exchange rate, that’s a loss of just over €1 million for Villarreal but that’s a good return for a fast-ageing striker who has had his problems with injuries and inconsistency.

Soldado’s experience proved vital during his first season back in Spain following a poor spell in the Premier League as he helped Villarreal to a top four finish, making a mammoth 44 appearances.

However, he only managed 11 outings last season due to injury, scoring four times and the pick of the bunch coming against rivals Valencia in the 3-1 away win to secure Europa League football.

Soldado’s contract expires in just one year and with an offer as big as €10 million said to be on the table, Villarreal feel that now may be the only opportunity they get to make a return on the investment they made in 2015.

The striker is expected to complete his move within the next few days and with only Enes Unal and Cedric Bakambu to call upon as central strikers, Fran Escriba is expected to find a replacement in the next fortnight.
