Paris Saint Germain players told Neymar that it was ‘his chance to shine’ when Barcelona beat the French club 6-5 on aggregate in the Champions League last season.
July 2017 has been about Neymar and his pending move to PSG with reports constantly in French, Spanish and English media.
The Brazilian formally handed in a transfer request on Wednesday morning as he arrived back in Barcelona, following a medical for the French side in Qatar, where he had also met PSG president Nasser El-Khelaifi.
And, with rumours of an official announcement to come on the weekend – his move to the Parc des Princes is all-but complete.
Various news stories have been released about why Neymar wants to leave the Camp Nou for Ligue 1, claiming he wanted to escape Lionel Messi’s shadow and become the main protagonist in a team, whilst others claim he had become ‘lonely’ and felt life in Spain was strained following court cases about his move from Santos in 2013.
La Liga News UK understands that adding to those reports come a moment at half time during Barca’s famous comeback in the Champions League against PSG.
The Catalan side were 4-0 down from the first leg, but won the second leg 6-1 thanks to a determined performance from Neymar.
Sources close to PSG’s Brazilian contingent claim that they were goading Neymar at half-time about joining them in Paris and that they were heard, saying ‘the owner is watching, now is your chance to shine’.
Barca fans have already began showing their unhappiness at the decision of Neymar’s, with some fans posting posters outside the Camp Nou comparing him to Judas.
A move is now expected to be completed by the weekend, with a presentation for the players already planned at the famous Eiffel Tower.
